Update July 2, 2021: The developers behind Infinity have sent an email update announcing the Kickstarter date has been pushed back to August 18th. Read the email below.

The Kickstarter date has been moved!

– Now on August 18th –

As we continue to prepare for the launch of the Infinity Kickstarter, we decided it would be best to push the date to August 18th.

We thought that despite our dedication to Infinity, some final elements needed to be fine-tuned. It’s mandatory for us to make the best environment for the Kickstarter campaign, and to make this game a reality.

For example, we are waiting on some price updates; Covid-19 has made raw material and chip prices increase a lot since our first estimates.

In light of this, we need to be even more careful to ensure the best future for Infinity. After all, some of you have waited 20 years for it! We will not miss this amazing opportunity to bring you this gem.

Now, some game updates! We thought that you would be pleased to see some character artwork we have worked on! 20 years back, only sprites were done for Infinity; no official drawings were made for the game. Benoît, our character designer, worked from each sprite to make these amazing renders. Below you will be able to see 4 of the 11 characters of the Infinity cast!

Thank you for your understanding, and we’re sorry for the extra wait!

Infinity, a cancelled GBC game from 2001, gets resurrected with Kickstarter and full release

This epic tale frames a roleplaying game with a unique tactical battle system, a detailed world with over 50 explorable areas and more than 100 items, and beautiful 8-bit graphics — all to immerse you into the world of Infinity!

This is incredibly exciting!

Infinity was a Game Boy Color game in development from 1999 to 2001 by Affinix Software before it got cancelled because the Game Boy Advance had hit the scene. Some further backstory:

Originally developed by Affinix Software from 1999 to 2001 towards the end of the Game Boy Color’s retail lifespan, the shift in the market towards the Game Boy Advance (released in 2001) resulted in publishing struggles for the game. As a result, the original Affinix team went their separate ways, leaving Infinity a what-if that was formally cancelled in 2002. Yet, 15 years later, following repeated interest in what was seen as one of the last Game Boy Color games, an unfinished version of Infinity was released as a free ROM in 2016.

Now, for the 20th anniversary of Infinity, we have assembled a team consisting of both Affinix originals and fresh faces to finally complete Infinity and give it the physical cartridge release for the Game Boy Color that it always deserved!

Incube8 Games is stepping in to help publish in addition to the planned Kickstarter campaign (date TBA.) A previous post mentioned their other GB publishing project, Genesis, going up for preorder recently.

Honestly this reminds me of when Nintendo finally released the original MOTHER outside Japan as Earthbound Beginnings in 2015.😁

Preorders open for Genesis, a homebrew shmup by 7FH releasing in September

Make your way through 4 action packed levels, shoot down enemy ships, collect power-ups and defeat the bosses to reach the main processor and stop GENESIS once and for all.

Just put in my preorder for this wonderful looking homebrew game. It’s a shoot-em-up developed by 7FH (haven’t found much info on them, unfortunately) getting released in September. Preorders close on June 7th at 2pm EST so lock yours in for a sweet $44.99 USD before tax and shipping.

This release includes:

  • Sealed box
  • Black game cartridge
  • Cartridge protector
  • Game manual

Preorderers get a limited edition sticker sheet, too.

Genesis is being published as a physical cartridge by Incube8 Games — who are also helping publish the highly-anticipated “resurrected” game Infinity (whenever that manages to launch its Kickstarter.)

Somewhat notably, this release was developed using GBDK and not GB Studio, unlike some other recent homebrew games.

Bring on the physical GB publishing resurgence. 😎
